6 Practical Tips to Get a Remote Job Without Any Experience

Do you want to get an online job? I wished for one back in 2017 even before the pandemic started. I want to travel the world, not commute for over 4 hours a day.

Right now, most individuals want a permanent work-from-home job. The online setup we experienced is slowly transitioning to office-based again.

The problem is that I don’t have any experience working online. There are easy remote working jobs you can do without experience. But companies don’t really hire if you have none at all. You need to prove yourself.

Luckily, I still got an online job. And I’ve never gone back. And here’s how I did it.

Highlight Any Remote Working Experience, Even Unofficial Ones

Highlight Any Remote Working Experience, Even Unofficial Ones

If you have worked for a company or your own business, most likely, you already have the skills to do remote work. The difference is, that you just have to do it online with little tweaks.

The biggest fear of employers is that you won’t be productive working remotely. You just have to show that you are capable of becoming productive at home (or anywhere).

With this, highlight any remote working experience you have, even unofficial ones.

Did you get a chance to work from home when you were sick? Or maybe there’s a storm and you don’t have to choice but to report online.

And speaking of not having a choice, if you did work-from-home during the pandemic, it’s a great example! For me, I highlighted my experience in handling a business.

If you can manage your time while no one is looking, it’s the first step to getting that online job you want.

Equipment and Workspace Ready for Remote Work

Equipment and Workspace Ready for Remote Work

It might be common sense. But you should have the proper equipment for remote working. Almost all remote jobs require a computer. Our cellphones are far from having the same functionality. And depending on the job, you might need to beef up your computer specs.

The next thing is a dedicated workspace. Your possible clients want your undivided attention when working. And a dedicated workspace in your house allows that. You can these ideal workspace ideas.

But if you don’t have an extra room, make sure to show that you have a conducive workspace. You may relay a system like a “don’t disturb” agreement in your household when you are working. O maybe you have someone who takes care of your kids.

You just have to prove to them that you can work from home without a lot of adjustments.

Tailor Fit Your Application to the Client’s Needs

Tailor Fit Your Application to the Client’s Needs

A lot of applicants just send general resumes for every possible client they have. That’s not a good idea. Out of all the applicants out there, what sets you apart from the rest?

You should tailor fit your applications to your client’s needs. Most like they already expressed what they’re looking for in the job listing. All you have to do is supply information like past work experience or ideas on what you can do that fits their specific needs.

Highlight Your Communication Skills

Highlight Your Communication Skills

A functioning remote working team is heavily dependent on communication skills. But how do you do that when you can’t see them?

It’s becoming adept at using remote working tools. Some of these might be Google Workspace, Zoom, Skype, Slack, and many more. You should know how to use these tools and collaborate with the team more effectively with them.

Upskill with Courses

Upskill with Courses

If you’ve worked before but there’s a specific set of skills for the job you’re looking for, you can upskill with courses. There are many available online, both free and paid. Check this list for reliable ones.

When you upskill, you can be more convenient to provide the service to your clients, even if you don’t have the experience yet.

Do Freelancing or Volunteer Work

What if you have zero experience? For some reason, you haven’t worked online or office-based at all. Most employers would not hire you to be their training ground. And you can’t blame them because they have to maximize their resources.

So what to do? You can apply for freelancing, or internships first. Once you build the experience, you can confidently apply again for future clients.

Conclusion

Conclusion

Starting your remote working journey is not a walk in the park. You will get challenges and a lot of rejections. But don’t give up because only time would tell before you get the remote working job you’ve dreamed of.
