You might be feeling down because things haven’t been going your way. Sometimes, we just need a pep talk.

But did you know that you can do it yourself through certain affirmations? And that consistent practice can make you more productive in your online job?

What-are-Affirmations

What are Affirmations?

But what are affirmations, you ask? Well, these are short statements that encourage a more positive outlook. They also help reinforce the core values that you want to have.

Most of the time, it’s used against negative thinking and unproductive behavior. The gist is if you say it consistently, you can change your habits for the better.

It’s a form of self-love for better well-being.

With regular practice, most feel more confident and self-assured. You can also shift your mindset to perform better at work and feel less stressed about it. Magical, right?

What-Does-Science-Say

What Does Science Say?

But does it really work? Can you reverse your negative thought patterns by just repeating simple sentences?

According to one study, self-affirmation enhances our performance and further empowers us to correct our negative habits.

It banks on neuroplasticity, or the brain’s ability to change and adapt to our environment.

With each affirmation, you can picture yourself becoming the person you want to be.

And the brain can’t distinguish between the mix of reality and imagination — so you’ll feel as if you’re actually experiencing the affirmation in real life.

But you have to do it correctly, so here are tips for effectively creating affirmations for productivity:

Use-the-Present-Tense

Use the Present Tense

For your affirmations, you should use the present tense. But what’s the reason behind this?

When we state our affirmations, we want to feel it right now — which is harder to do when phrased in future tense.

“I am a high-value remote worker.” is more effective than “I will be a high-valued remote worker.”

By using the present tense, you help your subconscious experience the emotions as if you were already the person you’re striving to be.

Use Positive Wording

Use Positive Wording

You should also phrase your affirmations with positive wording. Based on a study, the brain has a hard time processing negative statements. In fact, we have a negativity bias.

So instead of feeling the positive meaning of the statement, your brain focuses more on the negative words.

For example, “I am a productive remote worker.” hits different compared to “I am not a lazy remote worker.”

Which of the statements feels more empowering? Probably the first one, right? Meanwhile, the second sentence feels “lazy” rather than productive, even if it’s written as “not lazy”.

So by using positive wording, you help your brain grasp your affirmations better.

Use-the-First-Person-Perspective

Use the First Person Perspective

Affirmations are supposed to be personal statements. That’s why you should phrase them in the first person.

“I am a rockstar Virtual Assistant.” sounds more empowering than “Becoming a rockstar virtual assistant is my goal.”

By doing this, you tie your affirmations to your sense of self. It makes them more relevant and believable.

Make it Your Own

Make it Your Own

There are a lot of affirmations you can use for productivity. Here are some.

But it’s best to stay away from the generic ones. Remember, this is your life that you want to improve. So make your affirmations your own.

Try to add specific details and customize them based on what you want to achieve.

Ultimately, affirmations are supplementary practices towards being more productive. At the end of the day, you should also put in the action after each affirmation.

By practicing affirmations coupled with the effort required, you can surely build a better remote working career.
