6 Interesting Jobs That AI Will Create in the Future

Being replaced by AI is a growing concern for employees today, particularly those in industries most threatened by automation.

Artificial intelligence is evolving so fast that, according to a report from Oxford Economics, AI will replace twenty million manufacturing jobs alone by 2030.

Yes, there are jobs that AI can’t replace, such as writers and most engineers. But what about the others? Will they be left jobless once AI takes over?

Fortunately, this isn’t going to be the case. Yes, AI will render many jobs obsolete. But there will be plenty of new jobs that AI will create as well. This is one of the positive impacts of artificial intelligence on employment, which will help mitigate the lost jobs.

People often forget that technological evolution happens all the time. When tractors were developed, they didn’t replace farmers. Instead, it helped farmers be more productive and harvest more crops than before.

Basically, the emergence of AI will develop new jobs to replace old ones. What are these new jobs that AI will create? Let’s find out.

AI Trainers

AI Trainers.

If there’s one thing that humans excel at compared to AIs, it’s interpreting emotions and human communication. Sure, an AI can give you a detailed explanation of human emotions. And it can even learn most, if not all known human languages.

But can an AI hold a meaningful conversation with you or detect sarcasm? Can it comfort you when you’re feeling down? Because of AI’s limitations, it will need trainers that can teach it how to properly interact with people.

One such example is empathy trainers. Empathy trainers train AI to respond with empathy and compassion to people it interacts with. This allows AI to give a more humane response to customers.

You don’t even need a college degree for this. A high degree of empathy toward others is all you need.

AI also needs worldview trainers. These people teach AI to consider various cultural perspectives when making decisions to avoid accidentally offending people who come from a culture that’s different from its programmers.

AI Ethics Compliance Managers

AI Ethics Compliance Managers.

One of the most common fears everyone has about AI is the thought of it rising against us. Think Skynet from the Terminator movies.

If AI will be supplanting people in their jobs in the future, someone needs to ensure it does its tasks legally and ethically. Nobody wants their AI to hold biases against women when selecting applicants for a job, for instance.

Enter the AI ethics compliance manager, another of the new jobs that AI will create. This is similar to the current compliance managers, who ensure the company’s policies, employees, and projects comply with all the relevant rules and regulations.

They ensure that AI is free from human biases, intentional or otherwise. For example, if an AI ends up prioritizing male applicants for software developer jobs due to the data used to inform its processes, they’ll step in and fix the issue.

Because they need to analyze the programming used in an AI to determine the source of an issue, this job requires a certain level of tech-savvy. So if you’re a compliance specialist considering this job, learning programming skills is highly recommended.

Algorithm Forensics Analysts

Algorithm Forensics Analysts.

Just like any advanced technology, the knowledge of most people outside programmers regarding AI ranges from basic to none. Business owners, in particular, would like to know precisely how their company’s AI would help improve their businesses.

Thus, companies will need employees who can explain AI algorithms to the non-experts within the company. One such job would be the Algorithm forensics analyst.

They’re responsible for analyzing what went wrong with an AI’s programming in the event that it makes a mistake. Once they’ve discovered the cause of the error, they will then explain it to the rest of the company.

Predictably, algorithm forensics specialists and AI ethics compliance managers work hand in hand. The latter ensures that the company’s AI works as intended, while the former troubleshoots the AI’s programming at the root of an issue to resolve it.

Data Analysts

Data Analysts.

Thanks to AI, businesses now have easy access to various information it needs to operate. However, you still need humans to process this raw data and convert it into useful information for companies.

Because of this, many expect the demand for data analysts to rise.

Since AI is doing most of the data gathering, all data analysts need to do is analyze them and present the findings to their employers.

AI-assisted Healthcare Technicians

AI innovation isn’t just confined to the office and factories. Today, even the medical field has started to use AI.

AI is now used to better detect diseases, improve diagnosis, and automate mundane yet crucial hospital tasks. All these are all well and good, but you still need medical experts who are familiar with AI to manage and operate it.

Besides expertise in using and managing AI systems, these technicians must also have familiarity with medical procedures. This allows them to better support doctors and nurses in streamlining their work.

Man-Machine Teaming Manager

Man-Machine Teaming Manager.

For AI and humans to work together, they’ll need people capable of managing human-AI interactions in the office.

These man-machine teaming managers are able to utilize and combine the strengths of AI and humans to achieve business goals.

They’re responsible for defining the roles and responsibilities of the AI and humans to avoid role confusion. They also set the rules on how AI and humans should interact to accomplish their tasks.

Since they’ll be working with humans and AI, an effective man-machine teaming manager should have relevant expertise and experience in fields like computer science and engineering, HR, and psychology.

New Jobs for the Age of Automation

New Jobs for the Age of Automation.

It’s understandable that many have apprehensions towards automation in the workplace. After all, they may lose their jobs because of it.

But no matter how advanced an AI becomes, it still needs the human factor in its operations. And now that AI does the more mundane tasks at work, it frees up humans to focus on doing more vital tasks.

So yes, some careers will be replaced by AI, but AI will also create several jobs in the future to replace them.
