Ways to Improve Your Workstation as an Online 3D Modeler and CAD Designer

One of the crucial aspects of an Online CAD designer job is having an efficient workstation. Of course, this is true for most jobs. But an efficient workstation is especially crucial for design and multimedia specialists such as virtual 3d modelers and CAD designers.

Virtual 3D modelers and CAD designers develop models, blueprints, or technical schematics using computer-aided design software. These aren’t easy tasks, and doing these throughout the day can be very stressful. An efficient workstation allows you to work at your best and accomplish your tasks without too much stress.

So how do you improve your workstation so that you can work more efficiently? To answer this question, here are some tips that can help you start improving your workstation while remote working. These tips range from choosing the right computer to deciding which decorations to use for your workstation.

What are Your Duties and Responsibilities

What are Your Duties and Responsibilities?

Before we begin discussing how to improve your workstation, I would first like to discuss your duties and responsibilities. A virtual 3D modeler and CAD designer’s duties and responsibilities include:

  • Meeting with architects, designers, and engineers to discuss ideas.
  • Developing product designs from scratch.
  • Generating solid and surface CAD models using the AutoCAD software.
  • Finishing AutoCAD models
  • Blending technique and aesthetics to create final designs

The minimum entry-level salary for a new online CAD designer job is 25,000 pesos, while the maximum is 30,000. And they say there’s no money in making art.

Have a Computer that’s Well-Suited for Your Needs

Have a Computer that’s Well-Suited for Your Needs

One of the first things to consider when establishing your workstation is whether or not your computer can handle the software for your work. As a virtual 3D modeler and CAD designer, your job isn’t just taxing for you. It’ll be taxing for your computer as well.

Modern Computer-aided design software such as TinkerCAD, FreeCAD, AutoCad, and Creo allows you to construct 3-D designs with ease. The problem is that they’re very taxing to your computer. Using these applications for too long may damage your computer.

To avoid this, select a computer or laptop that can handle the strain caused by your CAD software for a long time. Generally, your computer should have a minimum processor of either an Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5. The recommended processors for CPU-intensive tasks like 3D modeling are an Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 and above.

For internal storage, the recommended storage space for you is 256Gb and above. This storage space should be enough for storing your online design portfolio and other necessary data for work. Be sure your computer has a graphics card installed and has a minimum of 8Gb of RAM, though the recommended is 16Gb and above.

Pick a Workstation that’s Spacious Enough for You

Pick a Workstation that’s Spacious Enough for You

This advice should be common sense already, but an efficient workstation is a spacious workstation. A spacious workstation allows you to move freely without bumping into things, as well as large enough to house all your work equipment.

Another aspect of a spacious workstation that aids in work efficiency is that it reduces stress from work. Aside from making you feel less claustrophobic, having space allows you to stand up and move about as well.

Unfortunately, not all of us have the luxury of a large room to serve as our workspace. But even with a small room, you can have spare space by arranging your tools and equipment to make the most of the available space.

Regularly Clean Your Workstation

There’s no better way to improve your workstation than simply cleaning it regularly. Doing this removes all the unnecessary clutter and trash in your workstation and brightens its look as well. Cleaning your workspace also gives you a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment after you’ve seen the results of your efforts.

But how regularly do you need to clean your workstation? Honestly, it depends on your personal preferences. If you’re a neat freak, you can clean your workstation after you finish your work shift. But if you’re like me, then you can clean your workstation at least once a month.

Make Sure Your Workstation Has a Positive Atmosphere

Make Sure Your Workstation Has a Positive Atmosphere

Culminating all my previous advice is this. A good workstation must have a conducive and comfortable feel to it so that you’ll be motivated to work. Also, having this will help in constructing new ideas for your projects as well. As nothing in your workstation distracts you while you’re brainstorming.

A workstation that exudes a positive atmosphere also helps in keeping you relaxed while working. Seeing it clean and well-organized will give you a sense of purpose and drive to start your day.

Conclusion

Conclusion

Aside from having the skills needed for your online CAD designer job, having an efficient place to work is just as crucial. Having one allows you to work efficiently and without any distractions. And it also helps you relax when you’re taking a break or after a day of work.

Aside from these tips, I think the only other advice I could give to you is to make sure to personalize your workspace. Remember, you’ll be spending most of your work hours here. Make sure that you will feel comfortable and eager to do your online job while staying here.
