Seven Most Popular Home-Based Jobs (And How Much They Earn) Throughout the Quarantine

Ever since the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) was declared, many companies opted to implement a work-from-home (WFH) scheme. While majority still struggle with the specifics, those who work for these companies are lucky to remain employed.

Otherwise, now is a really tough time to be out of work. From small-medium enterprises to large multinational companies, several firms have suspended their operations. You can bet that none of them are hiring at the moment.

Still, don’t despair. There is a faint glimmer of hope amidst all the chaos. While a traditional job might be out of the question for now, there are plenty of other opportunities opening up in the remote work field.

So, if you’ve got a functioning laptop or desktop and a stable internet connection, all is not lost. Why not consider applying for any of the increasingly popular home-based jobs below?

1. Online Tutoring.

As of January 2020, education has the highest demand in the home-based jobs field in the country. These jobs typically include education consulting, education content writing, and data analysis.

Foreigners who wish to learn English also rely greatly on online tutors. Best of all, you won’t need a lot of experience to get started. That, along with an average monthly salary of Php 37,000, doesn’t sound too shabby now, does it?

2. IT-based Jobs.

Given how many companies are getting more and more innovative, it’s hardly surprising that the demand for IT professionals remains high. While the average monthly salary is an eye-watering Php73,000, IT is a very competitive field.

Companies generally seek highly-experienced professionals for home-based jobs, so a substantial CV is advantageous. Those who specialize in software engineering, IT support, web development, and quality assurance (QA) analysis are likely to find no shortage of remote opportunities either.

3. Human Resources.

HR professionals don’t just interview potential candidates. They’re also in charge of many daily administrative tasks and basically maintaining a safe and secure working environment. Obviously, they play a critical role in any organization, and most HR professionals earn an average of Php33,000 monthly.

With the covid-19 pandemic forcing many businesses to operate remotely, there’s been an uptick in demand for remote HR jobs. These usually include talent acquisition and virtual administrative assistance.

4. Healthcare.

No, you don’t have to subject yourself to the frontlines to participate in the local healthcare sector. Now, more than ever, people need remote access to medical professionals for urgent concerns.

If you have a nursing background, for instance, you can find work as remote medical support. These positions offer an average monthly salary of Php 46,000.

5. Customer Service.

According to Jobstreet, customer service jobs are the second most sought after in the remote industry. It makes sense, really. Apart from good English communication skills, you don’t need much to get started.

Plus, so long as you’ve got headphones, a laptop, and a stable Internet connection, you can sit comfortably at home and rake in an average of Php42,000 monthly.

6. Sales.

This field is sometimes synonymous with telemarketing in the remote world. As the job entails cold-calling and responding to inquiries from customers, sales and marketing experience is a big plus.

Remote sales jobs consistently rank among the top ten most in-demand positions. Compensation schemes may vary as some companies offer commissions on top of salaries. However, the average sales job pays Php48,000 monthly, so that’s still quite generous.

7. Online Content.

Compelling content will always set an online brand apart from the rest. Furthermore, when you’re competing for a consumer’s increasingly short attention span, good content is practically a must.

Hence, you’ll need a good team of copywriters, video editors, graphic designers, and perhaps an SEO specialist too. It’s hard to pinpoint an average salary figure for these, but freelancers can earn up to six figures a month if they have a good portfolio and network like crazy.

A word of caution, though, if you please. A handful of remote work postings often turn out to be scams, with many remote employers stiffing their subcontractors.

With Remote Staff, however, we screen all clients to make sure that they are all legitimate prospects. Furthermore, we can guarantee that all our remote contractors will receive proper compensation, and are prepared to pay out of pocket in the unlikely event that a client runs out on them.
