National Heroes Day: A Tribute to Our Modern-Day Heroes

Many heroes in our history deserve to be remembered. Andres Bonifacio, Jose Rizal, and many others are why we enjoy our sovereignty today.

But in our era, we still need heroes to fight for us in today’s predicaments: the economic downturn, the pandemic, and more plague Filipinos in the present day. Seems like a gargantuan task.

But the spirit of our national heroes still resides in our people. Modern-day heroes, as some may say. It’s high time to celebrate our Filipino brethren who sacrificed their lives and safety for the benefit of many.

Who are these heroes? Here’s a tribute to our modern-day heroes for national heroes day.

Overseas Filipino Workers

Overseas Filipino Workers

We all know the plight of opportunities in the Philippines. Now that you can work remotely, you can find online work-at-home jobs with similar rates abroad. But not everyone is fortunate to get one.

If you don’t have the privileges, you might succumb to a downward financial spiral. So Filipinos go abroad for greener pastures. But at what cost?

My mom is an OFW and has worked hard all her life to provide for her family.

She’s a breadwinner who sacrificed her precious time away from her loved ones. She wasn’t really there when we were growing up. But we did have a comfortable life. Thousands of similar stories resonate in the Philippines.

Because of the foreign currency that enters the Philippines, they continue to be one of the critical drivers of economic growth. It’s just fitting to celebrate their contributions, not only to their families but to the development of our nation as well.

Healthcare Workers

Healthcare Workers

The pandemic tested every single one of us. It’s like a silent battle with forces we can’t even see. And this invisible virus killed thousands in months. With no cure in place, how did we survive this initial onslaught?

With the help of our healthcare workers, of course. And it’s not limited to doctors and nurses. Everyone in the healthcare field including assistants, hospital staff, medical technologists, and more paved the way for our survival.

They upheld their Hippocratic oath, even with the risk of contracting the disease themselves. Especially when without vaccines, it’s a high risk of being exposed to infected people.

Imagine if the healthcare system ultimately collapsed during the height of the pandemic. Where would we be today? They dared to do so, risking their lives for us.

We owe it to our healthcare workers to protect us from diseases. Let’s make a toast for them. They deserve all the recognition.

Workers in the Food Industry

Workers in the Food Industry

Most of us were stuck at home with the past lockdown. We all need food inside to survive. That’s why we give our kudos to our workers in the food industry.

They supplied us with essential and enjoyable meals in the safety of our homes. And it’s not just the cook. It includes all the food delivery men, grocery staff, factory workers, restaurant staff, and more.

Because of them, we had the essentials to plough through the past crisis. And they deserve to be lauded for that.

Teachers and Educators

Teachers and Educators

The youth of today will shape our future. And it’s the job of our teachers and educators to mould our next leaders. Teachers go far and beyond their scope of work. More than the lessons, they are guides for emotional and social development.

With individuals’ different personalities and learning styles, it’s pretty challenging.

Amidst this noble job, teachers are mostly underpaid. It’s work that you won’t survive in without the passion for nurturing your students. They are one of our first role models. And they deserve to be lauded during national heroes day.

Parents

Parents

What’s the most challenging job in the world? Arguably, one of them is parenting. There’s no one right approach for raising children. It’s challenging to hone a child to be the best that he can be. So kudos to our parents!

Our parents are there when we need them. They make us feel better. And they are here to provide to use with the best of their abilities.

Conclusion

Conclusion

Who are your modern-day heroes? Here’s just a list of some you might encounter. But feel free to thank everyone you think is a hero in your life. It may be a special person or someone who impacted you to be the better version of you today.

And for us, let’s all be inspired by their sacrifices and be the best hero we can be ourselves. Happy Nationals Heroes Day!
